Mine was shipped to me on an island in the western Pacific, then put in a suitcase and checked from my island to Honolulu and then Honolulu to Bangkok through Japan… and came out of the box working just like it should. Middle position on the switch is off, one side is on, and the other side is on with a loud enough noise (like putting it in front of a portable speaker or clapping). My six year old son loves it and he enjoyed clapping and making noises to turn it on. It has held up to a month of use from a fairly careful six year old so far.
