I have had Apple Watches since they first came out. This is by far the best one. I was hesitant at first, because of the price, but don’t regret it at all. The thing doesn’t scratch and the battery life goes forever.

I finally broke down and updated my Series 4 this week. The battery had been getting to a point where making it a whole day was tough. After charging my Ultra for the first time, I put in around 9pm Monday night. I did a series of workouts totaling ~120 minutes on Tuesday, went for a walk using the watch without my phone for music, got in a 45 min workout again on Weds and even a run Thursday morning, not to mention 3 nights of sleep tracking… I *finally* put it on the charger around noon on Thursday; battery had dropped to 13%. While it still doesn’t match the battery life of a FitBit or other fitness watch, 60+ hours makes this is a bit of a game changer in my book. I still hope that Apple will work towards a much longer battery life and/or maybe some sort of solar tech, but this makes me happy. As for size, it is definitely big, particularly for tiny women’s wrists (mine are ~6.5”), but it took less than a day to get used to the heft. Notably, something that probably helped extend battery life: I tend to use a HR monitor for my runs and I almost always keep it in “theater” mode to minimize distractions.

The large face gets dirty easily. I use it for tracking my training program. Also for tracking my health. It’s everything that it’s supposed to be. Get the black or clear snap on cover it will save you some dings that I already have. The black watch band needs to be longer. My wrist go out to next to last hole. When I use my gym gloves they constantly set off the alarm app, which doesn’t go on unless I activate the alarm.

This is my first Apple Watch. It replaced a Versa 2, which replaced a Versa. I always was afraid of the poor battery life that Apple Watches have (my wife has an Apple Watch 8 and can barely make it through the day and sometimes doesn’t) especially compared with my Fitbit, but I decided to take the plunge when after several years my Fitbit battery had finally had it. I do miss the ease (in my judgement) of the Fitbit app for checking on my “moving” progress throughout the day but the Fitness app will suffice. I have never had less than 60% battery left when I take my watch off in the morning to charge before jumping into the shower. The watch is responsive, and I love that I can read and respond to texts on my watch if needed. (I don’t have my phone in my pocket). With my Versa, texts didn’t always come through and because I have an iPhone and. It Android, could never respond. It is not as easy to respond as it is on my phone, but works well enough. I also like that I can play my playlists while I exercise and don’t have to have my phone, yet it still track my walks or other exercise. I have tried to stream my playlists from Spotify, but that is a mixed bag. Sometimes it works and others it does not. I also like all of the apps that I can run, some being more than others useful in a small screen. I am glad I waited until the Ultra for the larger screen, longer battery life, and tough titanium casing. I also like how the screen is protected by metal on the sides and doesn’t wrapped around the watch face. I do still keep a screen protector just in case.

I love my Ultra but I don’t like the band. I had to buy a new band because this one was not for me. It was bulky and the metal rings on the bottom constantly bang and scratch stuff. I use a Mac which is metal and the metal on metal banging was annoying to say the least. Choose a different band than this one if you have an option.

Love the larger size of the watch. The display is crisp and clear. And the battery finally lasts. About 2.7 days so far. Way better than my gen 5 that lasted 12 hours.
