My son gifted this set to my wife and I for our anniversary last year. It was such a thoughtful gift, and they are incredibly handy. They are universal (not specific to salt or pepper), so grinding pepper is a little slow while grinding salt is fast. You eventually get used to that.
Well, it broke my heart the first time (yes you read that right) I dropped one. It tumbled from the cabinet – the first shelf – bounced off the counter and hit the floor. The floor is vinyl, but that didn’t help. The metal top part went flying in a different direction than the acrylic base, as the acrylic is brittle and cannot handle impacts. It broke where the top part twists onto the base, so it can never be used again despite trying to super glue the shards of plastic back on. That lasted minutes…. The first problem was my clumsiness, however the real problem is that the top half, which contains the motor and 4 batteries, is heavy. That makes these things very top heavy with a high center of gravity, and they topple very easily. They topple on the counter, on the table, and inside the spice cabinet.
It’s happened again, twice. That second time was with a second set I bought as I wanted to keep using the gift our son gave us. Only this recent third time, I’m considering moving to a different product. This is getting expensive!

Over the last few years I have owned about 6 different sets of battery operated grinders and these are by far the best. All of the other grinders I have owned grind salt at least twice as fast as pepper, which resulted in many ‘over salting’ accidents. These grind salt and pepper at almost equal speed. They are quality built and still look new after several months of use.

This was a gift and when we put batteries in one of the mills it got so hot that the battery was starting to melt. I am past the return window or otherwise it would be going back.
Update: Latent Epicure reached out and sent a replacement set. Upgrading rating due to good customer service. The mills work great and are very useful and convenient.
